ENGL E651 Artist Edition Tube Head withENGL Z9 Foot Switch. Excellent Condition
Up for your consideration is an ENGL E651 Artist Edition Tube head with the companion ENGL Z9 Foot Switch. This head is an EL34 based, 100 watt version of the Richie Blackmore head that ENGL had produced. The amp has all ENGL branded tubes, with a sticker on the chassis that says "New Power Tubes 09/15/18".

So, I would guess that was the last time they were replaced. It's well worth having the foot switch though, as it effectively turns the E651 into a four channel guitar head.

In researching these heads, I have read that they are somewhat rare in the US and were imported in limited numbers. Both the head and foot switch are in excellent condition.

I traded for the amp from a gentleman that had it in his professional studio, where he said he used it very little. It's been in a clean, smoke free and temperature controlled environment it's whole life. When I did play it, I ran this head through a Mesa 4x12 Cabinet loaded with Vintage 30's and it sounded amazing. It's got a very modded Marshall tone to it, as well as really nice cleans. The versatility of the four channels along with the ability to program setting choices into the foot switch, easily make this head one of the most well rounded amps out there.

Here is a little history on the ENGL E651, along with the specs. The Engl Artist Edition was developed as a modified version of an E650 Blackmore Signature head, originally used from 2006 as a studio amp by Gary Moore. Although based on the E650, Engl amp designer Horst Langer incorporated some modifications such as replacing the 5881 power amp tubes and voicing with EL34's.

Within a short time, word got out about this version and artists such as Doug Aldrich, Ken Hammer, Paul Stanley and Scott Gorham put in their requests. Paul Stanley and Ken Hammer are still actively using their amps live on stage.

Two Channels/Effectively 4 channel with the addition of the Z9 foot switch. Two Gain levels per channel. Tone control: Bass / Mid / Treble.

Effects loop: Serial / parallel. 4 x 12AX7 preamp tubes. 4 x EL34 power amp tubes. "Bright" switch on Clean channel. "Shape" (Mid-boost/cut) for Lead channel.

This really is a very nice amp, in excellent condition. If you're looking for a super clean example of this model, this is it!
